Turn an audio file into a link that plays

A podcast episode, a voice memo, an interview or a lecture recording. Upload the MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG or AAC and send one short link. It opens with a play button in any browser, on any phone, with nothing to install.

How do I turn an audio file into a link?

Drop the MP3 or other audio file in the uploader above and copy the short link you get back. Whoever opens it sees the file name, the length and a play button, and the audio plays in their browser. No account to create, no app to install, nothing to download first. It works the same on an iPhone, an Android phone and a laptop.

Plays in the browser

The page uses the browser's own audio player, so there is no plugin and no app. It works in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Edge, on phones and desktops.

Jump to any minute

The link streams with range support, so a listener can drag to minute forty of a two-hour recording without waiting for the whole file to download.

Swap the file, keep the link

Re-exported the episode with the intro fixed? Replace the file and the same link and QR code now play the new version. Free on every plan.

How replacing works

See whether it was opened

Every link counts opens for free, so you know the interview reached the client. Pro adds device and country breakdowns. We do not measure how many seconds were played.

What the stats show

What to know before you upload audio

Free covers files up to 100 MB. That is roughly two hours of MP3 at 96 kbps, or about ten minutes of uncompressed WAV. Pro raises the per-file cap to 200 MB. A free account keeps up to 20 live links at a time; delete one to free a slot.

Six formats are accepted: MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, AAC and FLAC. We check the file's real bytes, not just its name, so a renamed file is rejected. If you have a WMA or AIFF, convert it to MP3 or M4A first.

It is a player, not a studio. There is no waveform display, no transcript, no trimming and no editing. The file plays exactly as you exported it. Finish the edit in your audio app, then upload the final cut.

Anyone with the link can listen. A link is unlisted, not private. For a client demo or an unreleased episode, Pro adds a password, an expiry date and a view limit, and can hide the download button so the page is listen-only.

How it works

  1. 1

    Upload the audio file

Drop an MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, AAC or FLAC into the box above. On a phone, tap it and pick the file from Files or your recorder app.

  2. 2

    Copy the link

The short link and its QR code appear the moment the upload finishes. Paste it in an email, a chat, a course page or a document.

  3. 3

    They press play

The link opens the browser's player with the file name and length. Replace the file later and the same link plays the new version.

Podcast episodes before they go live

A finished episode is usually 40 to 120 MB, so it bounces off email and is a pain to send through a chat app. Upload the MP3 here and send one link to your co-host, your guest or your editor. They press play on their phone during the commute, scrub to the part they want to check, and reply with notes. When you fix the intro, replace the file and the same link plays the new cut, so the thread you already sent stays correct. The link is not a podcast feed and will not show up in Apple Podcasts or Spotify; it is for review, private sharing and bonus content.

  • Send a private preview to a guest before the episode is public.
  • Share a bonus segment with newsletter subscribers without touching your feed.
  • Swap in the corrected master and every copy of the link updates.

Voice memos and interviews

Phones save voice memos as M4A, and the Voice Memos app on an iPhone can only share them by AirDrop, Messages or Mail. Upload the memo here instead and you get a link you can paste anywhere: a Slack thread, a WhatsApp group, a project ticket, a Google Doc. A journalist can send an hour-long interview to an editor; a researcher can share a recorded conversation with a colleague who needs to hear tone, not just read a transcript. The receiver does not need your phone's app, an account, or to know what M4A is.

  • M4A from an iPhone and MP3 from an Android recorder both play as is.
  • Paste the link into a document next to your written notes.
  • Lock a sensitive interview with a password on Pro.

Lecture recordings for students

A 90-minute lecture recorded on a phone is about 60 MB as an MP3, small enough for a free link. Post the link in the course page or the class group and students listen on whatever they have. Because seeking works, a student who missed the second half can drag straight to minute 45. Language teachers use the same trick for listening exercises: one link per dialogue, a QR code printed on the worksheet, and the class scans it instead of typing a URL. The view counter tells you how many students actually opened it.

  • One link per lecture, posted where students already look.
  • Every link comes with a QR code you can print on handouts.
  • Re-record a muddled explanation and replace the file, same link.

Demos, voiceovers and drafts for clients

A voice actor sends three takes to a client, a composer sends a draft cue to a director, a producer sends a mix for approval. The client clicks, listens, and replies with a time-stamp. Nobody has to open SoundCloud, download a WAV or ask what app to use. On Pro you can turn the download button off, so the page is listen-only, and set the link to expire after the pitch. If you are a musician sharing songs rather than work-for-hire, the music demo page covers that angle in more detail.

  • FLAC and WAV play too, for when the client needs to hear the full quality.
  • Listen-only pages and expiry dates are Pro settings.
  • Name the file clearly, the title is what the client sees above the player.

What the listener sees on a phone

The link opens a plain page: the file name as the title, the size, and the browser's standard player with play, a progress bar and a volume control. On iPhone it is the Safari player, on Android it is the Chrome player, so the controls look familiar. Tapping play starts within a second on a normal connection because the file streams rather than downloads first. A small download button sits under the player unless you turned downloads off. There is no sign-in wall, no cookie-consent maze and no app-store prompt in the way of the play button.

Size, formats and how to shrink a big recording

Spoken word does not need a high bitrate. An MP3 at 64 to 96 kbps mono is clear for a podcast or lecture and runs about 30 to 45 MB per hour, well inside the 100 MB free cap. WAV is ten times larger, roughly 10 MB per minute at CD quality, so a 20-minute WAV already passes 200 MB. If you are over the limit, export as MP3 or M4A from your editor, or convert the WAV with a free tool like Audacity or ffmpeg. Keep WAV or FLAC only when the listener really needs lossless audio, such as a mastering client.

  • Podcast or lecture: MP3, 64 to 96 kbps, mono.
  • Music demo: MP3 at 192 to 320 kbps, or M4A.
  • Lossless for approval: FLAC is about half the size of the same WAV.
