A Vocaroo alternative with audio links you control

Vocaroo is quick, but a recording nobody opens for a few months can be deleted, and the link and QR code die with it. Upload the MP3, M4A or WAV here instead and you can manage the link, choose an expiry date, set a password and see its open count, even on the free plan.

What is a good alternative to Vocaroo?

Link in Seconds is a Vocaroo alternative for anyone who wants control over a shared recording. Upload an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, AAC or FLAC and get a short link and QR code you can manage on every plan. Add a password, pick your own expiry date, turn the download button off and see how many people opened it. The listener needs no app and no account. The one thing we do not do is record in the browser: you upload a file you already have.

Choose your own expiry

On every plan you can choose an expiry date or disable the link yourself. Free-link expiry may also be enabled by the service; check current plan terms for your account.

Password and your own expiry

Lock a private recording with a password, set a date when the link should stop working, or cap the number of opens. Vocaroo has none of these. All free here.

How password links work

See who opened the link

Every link counts page opens, with device and country, for free. These stats show that a recipient opened the page; they do not prove the audio was played or heard.

What the stats show

Download on or off

Let people save the file, or hide the download button so the page is listen-only. Switch it either way later without changing the link.

Listen-only links

What to know before you switch from Vocaroo

We do not record in the browser. Vocaroo has a record button; we have an upload box. Record with your phone's voice memo app, Audacity or any recorder, save the file, then upload it here. If you need to record and share in the same tab with nothing saved to your device, Vocaroo is still the quicker tool.

Publishing needs a free account; listening does not. Vocaroo asks for nothing at all. Here you sign in with Google once so your links have an owner you can come back to, rename, lock or delete. A free account keeps up to 50 live links at a time, each up to 250 MB; Pro raises the per-file cap to 500 MB with unlimited links. The person who opens the link never signs in.

Six formats are accepted: MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, AAC and FLAC. We check the real bytes, not the file name. A WhatsApp voice note exported as .opus is not accepted yet, so convert it to MP3 first. The file plays exactly as you uploaded it: there is no trimming or transcript; a waveform is shown when available.

Vocaroo facts checked on 28 Oct 2026 on vocaroo.com and its FAQ, which says recordings may be removed after months of inactivity and offers no password, expiry setting or play statistics. Our numbers come from our plan page. Vocaroo is better when you want to record in the browser and share in the same minute with no account at all.

How to replace a Vocaroo link with one that lasts

  1. 1

    Find the audio file

Use the recording you saved on your phone or computer. If you only ever had the Vocaroo link, download the MP3 from Vocaroo while the link still works.

  2. 2

    Upload it here

Drop the MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, AAC or FLAC into the box above and sign in with Google. The short link and QR code appear when the upload finishes.

  3. 3

    Set the controls and share

Add a password or an expiry date if the recording is private, turn downloads off for listen-only, then paste the link where the old one was.

Why a Vocaroo link expires, and what to do about it

Vocaroo’s FAQ says recordings left unplayed for a few months may be deleted, which can break a link or printed QR code. If that happened, you need the original file to create a new link here. Link in Seconds lets you set a password, choose an expiry and replace the file under the same URL. Check the current free-plan terms before relying on any link for long-term access.

  • Choose an expiry date or disable the link yourself; check current free-plan terms for service-set expiry.
  • The QR code points to the same link and follows its access settings.
  • You can replace the audio without changing the URL.

Upload only, no recording: how the workflow changes

This is the honest trade. Vocaroo's whole appeal is pressing one red button in a browser tab. We do not have that button. You record somewhere else first: Voice Memos on an iPhone, the Recorder app on Android, Audacity or GarageBand on a computer, or any app that saves an MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG, AAC or FLAC. Then you upload that file here. The upside is that you keep the original on your device, so the recording can never vanish with the link, and you can replace the file later while the link stays the same. On a phone the whole thing is a share-sheet tap and an upload. If you record several takes a day and share each one once, that extra step adds up and Vocaroo may suit you better. If you share recordings that need to last, the step is worth it.

  • iPhone: Voice Memos, share, Save to Files, then upload from Files.
  • Android: the Recorder app saves an M4A or MP3 you can pick straight from the upload box.
  • Computer: export from Audacity, GarageBand or your DAW as MP3 and drop it in.

Private recordings: password, expiry and listen-only

A Vocaroo link is public to anyone who has it and stays downloadable; there is no way to lock it or to make it stop on a date you choose. Here every link is unlisted by default, and on any plan you can add a password, set an expiry date, cap the number of opens, and hide the download button so the page is listen-only. A therapist sending a relaxation track to one client, a lawyer sharing a dictated note with a colleague, a language tutor returning marked oral homework: each gets a link that only the right person can open, that stops when the job is done, and that cannot be saved and forwarded if you turn downloads off. Changing the password later revokes anyone who unlocked it before.

  • Password, expiry date and view limit are free on every plan.
  • Turn the link off and on again from the dashboard without changing the URL.
  • Listen-only hides the button; it cannot stop someone recording their speaker.

What the listener gets

The link opens a plain page with the file name, the length and a player: a big play button, a progress bar you can drag, 10 second skips, a speed control and volume. It streams, so a long recording starts within a second and seeking to minute twenty does not wait for the rest to download. It works in Safari on an iPhone, Chrome on Android and any desktop browser, with no app, no account and no sign-in wall. If the listener closes the tab halfway, reopening the link resumes near where they stopped. A waveform is available for supported files; there is no transcript or editor.

When Vocaroo is still the better choice

Choose Vocaroo when you want to record immediately in the browser without creating an account. Choose Link in Seconds when you already have an audio file and want a managed link with optional password, expiry, open counts and file replacement. Open counts show page visits, not confirmed listening. Review current plan terms if the link must remain available for a long time.

Vocaroo alternative, answered

Vocaroo's FAQ says a recording that nobody plays for a few months may be deleted, and the link and QR code stop working when it is. Once that happens the recording cannot be recovered from Vocaroo; you need the original file. Upload that file here and you can set access controls on the new link.
