How does QR code photo sharing work?

You create a group album and print its QR code. A guest scans it with their phone camera, signs in with Google or email, joins the album and adds photos and videos from their camera roll. Everyone who joined sees the whole album, with the name of who added each photo. The code holds the album's link, not the photos, so it never needs reprinting.

Scan, sign in, add

The phone camera opens the album's join page. One tap on Continue with Google (or an email sign-in for people without Google) and the guest is in, with a button to pick photos and videos from their camera roll. No app to install.

A print card ready to go

Every group album has a print page: pick the Minimal, Diwali or Wedding style, a flat card or a folded table tent, then print it or download the QR as a PNG for your own invitation or slide.

Members only, with names

The album is not a public link. Only you and the people who joined can see it. Each photo shows who added it by first name, and only you, the host, see members' emails.

You decide when it closes

Pause joining, turn guest uploads off, or set a date when adding closes. People already in keep seeing everything. You can also turn guest downloads off and remove anyone.

Good to know before you print

Guests have to sign in. Joining takes a Google account or an email sign-in, so a few people will skip it. In return, only people who joined can see the photos.

Storage is the host's. Everything guests add counts against your plan: 500 MB in total on Free, 15 GB on Pro. Each file can be up to 250 MB on Free and 500 MB on Pro.

Photos and videos only. JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF and iPhone HEIC photos (turned into JPEG on the phone), plus MP4, MOV and WebM videos. Documents and other files are refused.

When they are better: a Google Photos shared album when everyone already uses Google and anyone with the link should be able to look without signing in; a Dropbox file request when the files should come only to you; WeTransfer for sending one batch once; a dedicated guest-upload app when you want extras we do not have, like live slideshow screens or prints. Google Photos, WeTransfer and Dropbox facts checked on 30 Oct 2026 on their own help and plan pages. Plans change, so check theirs before you decide.

How to set up QR code photo sharing

  1. 1

    Create a group album

In your dashboard, pick the Group album tile, give it a name and an optional tagline.

  2. 2

    Print the QR card

Open Print QR, choose the Minimal, Diwali or Wedding style and a card or table tent, then print it or download the QR as a PNG.

  3. 3

    Guests scan and add

A guest scans the code, signs in with Google or email, joins, and adds photos and videos from their phone.

  4. 4

Close it when the party ends

Pause joining, turn uploads off or set a closing date. Everyone who joined can still see the album and, if you allow it, save photos.

What the QR code actually holds

A QR code is just a link drawn as squares. Yours points at the group album's page, not at any photo. That is why the same printed card works from the first guest to the last, keeps working after people add hundreds of photos, and still opens the album a year later for anyone who joined.

  • The code only stops working if you delete the album. Turning uploads off or closing adding on a date keeps the album open for viewing.
  • Anyone who gets the code can ask to join while joining is on. Pause joining from the album's Manage panel once everyone you expect is in.
  • Someone you remove loses access at once and cannot join again with the same account. You choose whether their photos stay or go.

Printing a QR code people actually scan

Most QR failures happen at the printer, not on the phone. A few rules cover nearly all of them.

  • Size it to the scan distance, about 1 to 10. A table card read from 30 cm needs a code around 3 cm wide; a sign at the entrance read from 3 metres needs about 30 cm.
  • Keep a blank margin around the code and print it dark on light. A code pressed against a border or printed on a photo fails on many phones.
  • Test the real print, at its real size, in the room's light, with one iPhone and one Android, before you print fifty.
  • Print the short link under the code for people who never scan anything, and tell them in one line what happens: scan, sign in with Google, add your photos.

Where to put the code

Put it where people already have their phones out and a free moment. Table tents on every table work best at dinners and parties. A sign at the entrance or by the photo corner catches people as they arrive. At a talk, show it on the last slide. For people who were not there, send the same link in the WhatsApp group or with the thank-you message.

What happens to the photos guests add

Every photo and video is safety-checked when it is added. If one is held for review, only the guest who added it and you see an "in review" placeholder until it is cleared. Members can filter the album by person, photos, videos or favorites, play a slideshow, and select several photos to download as one ZIP. You get an email when guests add photos, and you can delete anything; a guest can delete only what they added.
