That is what keeps names like José or Zoë readable. Then sign in with Google and upload the file. - 2 ### We split it into columns Each line becomes a row and each comma a column break. Quoted fields are respected, so a value such as "Smith, John" stays in one cell even though it contains a comma. - 3 ### Share the table, not an attachment Send the link. The first row stays pinned as the header while the reader scrolls, and a Copy option in the menu puts the raw CSV text on their clipboard. ## Leading zeros and long numbers survive Spreadsheet apps guess types when they open a CSV, which turns ZIP code 02134 into 2134 and a 16 digit order ID into 1.23E+15. The browser table does no guessing: every cell shows the text in the file, so codes, phone numbers and IDs look exactly as exported. ## Quotes, commas and line breaks handled Real exports contain addresses with commas, descriptions with line breaks and quotes inside quotes. The parser follows the standard CSV quoting rules (RFC 4180), so those fields land in a single cell instead of spilling across the row. ## A header row that stays put The first line is treated as the header and pinned to the top, with row numbers down the side. Scrolling through a few hundred records, the reader always knows which column is the email and which is the signup date. ## For people who never open a spreadsheet Lead lists, survey results, product feeds and attendance logs often go to someone who only needs to look. The link opens on any phone or laptop, and your analytics show when it was opened. ## Before you share a CSV Commas only, not semicolons The table splits on commas. Files that use semicolons, common when Excel runs with European regional settings, show up as one wide column. Export with commas instead, or save tab-separated data with a .tsv extension, which also displays as a table. The text must be UTF-8 CSV text is read as UTF-8. A file saved in an older encoding such as Windows-1252 or Latin-1 will show accented letters as replacement symbols. Re-save it as CSV UTF-8 and upload the new copy. Big files fall back to a download The table shows the first 1,000 records. Files larger than 2 MB are not drawn inline at all: the reader gets a download card instead, if you allow downloads. ## Frequently asked questions Still stuck? In Excel use Save As and choose CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited). A CSV downloaded from Google Sheets is already UTF-8. Your CSV most likely uses semicolons as the separator. Excel does that in many European locales because the comma is the decimal mark there. Export with commas, then upload the file again. Yes. Values are never converted to numbers, so 00742 stays 00742 and long account numbers stay in full instead of switching to scientific notation.
