## How do I share an Excel spreadsheet as a link?

To share an Excel spreadsheet as a link, upload the .xlsx or .xls file above, sign in with Google for free, and copy the short link. Anyone who opens it sees a read-only table in their browser, one tab per sheet, showing the values Excel last saved. They need no Excel, no app and no account, and the link never expires.

### Every sheet keeps its tab

A workbook with a summary and twelve monthly sheets stays one link. The sheet names appear as tabs above the grid in the same order as in Excel, and the reader switches between them with a tap. No exporting each sheet, no screenshot of the one that matters.

### Nobody can change your numbers

This is a viewer, not a shared workbook. Nobody with the link can type into a cell, re-sort the data or break a formula, and your original file is untouched. Leave downloads on if they should get the XLSX too, or switch the link to view-only.

### New figures, same link

Prices change and reports get a new month. Replace the file from your dashboard and the same link, and the same QR code, show the new workbook. Nobody works from last quarter's copy sitting in their inbox.

### What an Excel link will not do

It does not recalculate or let anyone edit. Cells show the values saved in the file, and nobody can type, filter or sort in the shared copy.

Charts, pictures and cell colors are not drawn. The preview is a clean data grid; conditional formatting and merged-cell layouts stay in the file. Share a PDF or PNG of a chart if the chart is the point.

Very long sheets are trimmed in the view. Each sheet shows its first 1,000 rows and 60 columns with a note saying so; allow downloads if the reader needs every line.

## How it works

- 1 ### Save the workbook one last time Press save in Excel after your final edit so the latest formula results are stored in the file. If the workbook has an open password, remove it and use the link's own password instead.

- 2 ### Upload it and sign in free Drop the .xlsx, .xls or .csv on the upload card and sign in with Google, one tap and no card. Free covers files up to 250 MB, Pro up to 500 MB.

- 3 ### Copy the link and send it Paste it into an email, WhatsApp or Slack, or download the QR code for print. Add a password, an expiry date or view-only from the link's settings whenever you need them.

## Opens in any browser, no Excel needed

An Excel attachment opens differently everywhere. A phone preview may show only the first sheet, a Chromebook pushes it into Google Sheets, and a Mac without Office opens it in Numbers with the columns shifted. A link gives everyone the same view. The workbook is read straight from the file in the browser and drawn as a table, with the first row pinned while you scroll and row numbers down the side. Safari, Chrome, Edge and Firefox all work, with no Microsoft account, no Office license and nothing imported into another app.

## Formulas show their results, not their code

Cells show what Excel displays: the total from =SUM(B2:B40), dates as dates, prices with their currency symbol and percentages as percentages. The formulas themselves stay inside your file, which is usually what you want when you send a quote or a forecast to a client. The viewer never recalculates, it shows the result Excel stored when you last saved. So press save in Excel after your final edit. A file written by a script or export tool without stored results can show blank or stale cells; open it in Excel, save, and upload again.

## XLSX, old XLS and CSV files

Modern .xlsx workbooks and old Excel 97 to 2003 .xls files both preview as tabbed tables, with no conversion first. Macros are never run. A .csv file is shown as a table too, splitting on commas, with values kept exactly as written, so leading zeros and long ID numbers stay intact. Save CSVs as UTF-8 so accented names display correctly, and use commas rather than semicolons. CSV files up to 2 MB render inline and show their first 1,000 rows; a larger CSV still uploads and is offered as a download.

## View-only link or an editable workbook?

If several people need to type into the same sheet at the same time, a shared workbook in OneDrive or Google Sheets is the right tool, and what each person can do there depends on the permission you pick. Google Sheets' Publish to web also exists, but it needs the file converted into a Google Sheet first. An Excel link here solves a different job: sending finished numbers to people who only need to read them. It is a read-only copy of the exact file you uploaded, nothing is converted, and a wrong click cannot hand out edit rights.

## Password, expiry and tracking for sensitive numbers

Price lists, salary bands, budgets and sales reports are not for everyone. Every plan lets you add a password, set an expiry date so a quote stops working when the offer ends, and switch the link to view-only so the download option disappears. The email gate asks for the reader's address before the table opens, and the analytics count each open with device and country, so you know whether the client looked at the price list before the call. View-only cannot stop a screenshot, so treat it as friction, not copy protection.

## Update the spreadsheet, keep the same link

An Excel link is a snapshot of the file you uploaded, not a live sync with your copy in Excel or OneDrive, so editing the workbook on your computer does not change what readers see. When the numbers change, open the link in your dashboard and replace the file. The URL, the QR code and the view history stay the same, and everyone who has the link sees the new figures on their next visit. Every plan also keeps the last 5 versions, so you can roll back if a new upload had a mistake.

## On a phone, on paper, or on your site

On a phone the grid runs edge to edge, wide sheets scroll sideways and a fullscreen button gives the table the whole screen. Every link also has a downloadable QR code for a printed price list, a shop counter or a class timetable, and because the code points at the link, replacing the file updates what every printed code opens. To show the table inside your own site or intranet, copy the iframe code under Embed on your site in the link's Sharing tab; the password, expiry and view-only settings still apply there.
