# Connect Claude Code

Add the Link in Seconds MCP server to Claude Code with one command and publish files from your terminal.

Claude Code connects to remote MCP servers over HTTP. Once added, Claude can publish files it reads or writes in your project and reply with the link.

- ### Create an API key Open [Dashboard → API keys](https://linkinseconds.com/dashboard/api-keys), create a key named “Claude Code” and copy it. It starts with `lis_`.

- ### Add the server Run this in your terminal, with your key in place of the placeholder: Shell ``` claude mcp add --transport http linkinseconds https://linkinseconds.com/api/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer lis_YOUR_KEY" ``` Add `--scope user` to make it available in every project, or `--scope project` to share it with your team through a `.mcp.json` file (then keep the key out of that file, see below).

- ### Check it is connected Start Claude Code and run `/mcp`. You should see **linkinseconds** as connected, with six tools.

- ### Ask for a link For example: Text ``` > Turn notes.md into a clean HTML page and publish it as a link ``` Claude writes the page, calls `upload_file` and replies with something like: Text ``` Published: https://lisview.com/notes-k3 ```

## Big files

For files over 3 MB, Claude calls `create_upload_url`, uploads the file with `curl` from your terminal (you will be asked to approve the command), then calls `finish_upload`. Nothing extra to configure.

## Keep the key out of shared files

With project scope, the server is saved in `.mcp.json` in your repo. Claude Code expands environment variables in that file, so commit a reference instead of the key:

.mcp.json

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "linkinseconds": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://linkinseconds.com/api/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer ${LIS_API_KEY}" }
    }
  }
}
```

Each teammate then sets their own key:

Shell

```
export LIS_API_KEY="lis_..."
```

## Remove it

Shell

```
claude mcp remove linkinseconds
```

Tip

Removing the server from Claude Code does not delete the key. Delete it on the [API keys page](https://linkinseconds.com/dashboard/api-keys) if you no longer need it.
