Into a Slack thread, a Jira ticket, a Notion doc, a reply email. Dragging the raw image file around is where it gets clunky: it clutters the thread, some tools won't take a paste, and half the time the other person can't open it cleanly. A tidier move is to turn the screenshot into a **link** you paste anywhere. Here's why that's better and how to do it. ## Why sending the raw screenshot is awkward - **Attachments clutter the thread.** A screenshot dropped into email or chat becomes one more heavy attachment people scroll past, and in a ticket it's an "image1.png" nobody can reference later. - **Chat apps recompress it.** Slack, WhatsApp, and the like shrink images to save bandwidth, so the fine detail in your error text or UI bug gets softened right when it matters. - **Not everything takes a paste.** A Jira comment, a form field, or a README wants a URL, not a pasted blob. A link works there where an image file simply doesn't. - **It gets lost.** Sent as a file, the screenshot lives in one person's download folder. For a UI bug or a public screenshot that's exactly what you want. But screenshots often catch things you didn't mean to share, like an email address, a customer name, or account details in the corner. If the shot is sensitive, put a **password** on the link and an **expiry date** so it stops working after it's served its purpose.
